Partnerships to amplify impact
Our outreach initiatives seek to make the joy of STEM and creative arts available to everyone.
We deliver free or discounted programs to regional and remote communities and groups that are underrepresented in STEM. We aim to enhance existing projects, spark new ideas and create a more inclusive scientific future by partnering with:
- community groups
- schools/educational services
- STEM organisations
- university departments.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing program
Junior Science Academy, the Australian Hearing Hub and Parents of Deaf Children are proud to present an exciting and accessible science program for children with hearing loss.
The program provides children with the opportunity to have fun learning science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts, while making new friends who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) too.
Junior Science Academy classes teach these STEM concepts through:
- art and craft
- drama
- experiments
- hands-on exploration
- partner collaboration
- physical activity
- robotics.
- Age: Years 1–6
- Length: All day
- Location: Level 3, Australian Hearing Hub, 6 University Avenue, Macquarie University
- Capacity: Up to 14 children per class
Places will first be offered to new families and then Parents of Deaf Children members, with any remaining places offered to returning families. Places are limited and fill quickly, so please book as soon as possible.

Our school holiday programs for children have been tailored to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) kids, including:
- smaller class sizes to reduce noise and improve listening
- Auslan interpreters
- captions
- D/HH role models/ mentors
- additional volunteers
- modified lesson plans
Community roadshows
Our Outreach Roadshows bring a taste of university to regional and remote areas of NSW, with exciting STEM sessions for primary and high schools. In partnership with the Macquarie University Widening Participation Unit and local community organisations, we provide all the resources for 40–50 minute experiences packed with hand-on investigations.

- Capacity: Up to 30 children per session
- Price: Free if part of an existing WPU partnership project.
