The Office Furniture Re-use Store allows Macquarie University to re-use our office furniture on campus wherever possible.

This not only saves money, but helps us work towards our sustainability commitments.

The Office Furniture Re-Use Store opened in 2010 as part of a bigger scheme to incorporate sustainable initiatives into everyday university processes. The idea was to re-circulate used items of furniture across campus which may have otherwise been thrown away.

By the end of June 2024, the Furniture Re-Use Store had found new homes for more than 11,101 items, realising a saving of more than $3.14 million.

The University also holds open days where students, staff and community members are invited to take items off-site. Our last Furniture Open Day in 2023 saw almost 400 items rehomed and $1,000 raised for charity.

The Furniture Re-Use Store is part of the circular economy in action here at Macquarie.
