Professor Patrick McNeil
Biography
Patrick McNeil is the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Medicine and Health), and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health and Human Sciences, roles that provide leadership of both clinical and academic components of MQ Health – the Macquarie University Health Sciences Centre. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Tasmania, is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with specialty training in Rheumatology, completed a PhD in immunology at UNSW, and undertook a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. His previous leadership roles include Associate Dean, Education at UNSW Medicine, Executive Clinical Director at Liverpool Hospital, and Chair of Arthritis Australia.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Medicine and Health) is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive strategy to create Macquarie University’s academic health enterprise – MQ Health. MQ Health is guided by its core purpose: Heal, Learn, Discover and vision to transform healthcare delivery through innovation and integration, to improve lives.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Medicine and Health) is responsible for:
- Overseeing the University’s academically integrated healthcare delivery strategy.
- Undertaking the role of Managing Director of MQ Health Pty Ltd to lead a high performing team that will deliver patient-focused care within Australia’s first university-led healthcare system.
- Encouraging and supporting collaboration within MQ Health, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Building a high-quality healthcare delivery system that can add value to the education and research missions of all faculties of the University.
- Leading, coaching and setting the direction for senior management teams within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Medicine and Health) portfolio.

The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences
The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences provides the academic leadership and strategic direction of the Faculty. This includes overseeing the quality of learning and teaching as well as strategic ambition and development of Faculty research activity.
The Executive Dean is a member of the University Executive and contributes to the management of the wider University, and the achievement of its strategic intent.
The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences is responsible for:
- Overseeing a comprehensive strategy to integrate learning, teaching, and research with clinical practice at the University's academic health enterprise, MQ Health.
- Developing high quality undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs that result in an exceptional student experience.
- Developing and overseeing strategies that result in impactful health and medical research.
- Developing, implementing and managing enduring strategic local, national and international partnerships.
- Encouraging and supporting collaboration within the Faculty and across the University.
- Participating as a full member of the University Executive.
