Lunch and refreshments are provided.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits
A Certificate of Course Completion eligible for 16 hours of CPD credit can be claimed through the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). Participants may claim additional credit for the Emergency Response Category activities Cardiac Arrest & Massive Haemorrhage (Subject to completing the online learning package)
Background
The course is based upon the United Kingdom One Brain Neuroanaesthesia Simulation course. The One Brain concept was pioneered by a group of trainee and consultant anaesthetists after observing the success of similar specialised simulation courses in the UK. One Brain Neuroanaesthesia has grown to the point where it is now conducted in multiple centres across the United Kingdom. Macquarie University is the first centre outside of the United Kingdom to deliver the One Brain Neuroanaesthesia Simulation course.
Who should attend?
You will ideally be a Basic (BT), Advanced (AT), or Provisional Fellowship (PFT) trainee, OR an established anaesthesia fellow wanting to update your knowledge, technical and non- technical skills in the delivery of perioperative anaesthesia care for patients undergoing neurosurgery.
What to expect
The day promises to take you on a journey of discovery that is both challenging and rewarding. You will be exposed to a range of simulated neuroanaesthesia emergencies where you will be guided to provide high quality anaesthesia care consistent with proven evidence-based practices. You will participate in scenarios with learning outcomes designed to further develop your knowledge, technical and non-technical skills in areas related to the anaesthesia management of-
- raised intracranial pressure
- venous air embolism
- cardiac arrest
- subarachnoid haemorrhage
- traumatic brain injury
- external ventricular drainage (EVD)
- neurophysiological monitoring
Throughout the day there will be frequent opportunities to discuss and reflect on performance.
Who will teach the course?
The course will be delivered by a faculty of experienced neuroanaesthetists, intensive care physicians and surgeons sharing a passion for excellence in the delivery of anaesthesia care.
