The Macquarie Undergraduate Research Internship (MURI) program engages domestic undergraduate university students from LSES, regional and remote, and Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds in paid research internships, supervised by academics.
The program aims to enhance student experience and success by offering students the opportunity to participate in a paid internship that will enable them to evolve and contribute research skills in a practical capacity and expand professional networks within research domains.
Having existed at MQ, in various iterations, since 2010 MURI has seen over 70 students participate. Feedback from former MURI participants has identified the initiative:
- Increased student academic engagement and confidence
- Engaged students with academic methods and tools for researching
- Encouraged students to feel a sense of belonging to a collaborative community
- Promoted personal growth and confidence
Participating in the MURI program proved highly valuable. It allowed me to develop research skills, gain hands-on experience in various methodologies, and expand my knowledge in my field. Additionally, the networking opportunities connected me with accomplished academics, offering mentorship and potential collaborations.
