Strategic Directions
The directions we take as a University represent both our goals and our identity. In each of these directions the University will build on its unique location, on the skills and enthusiasm of its staff, and on the diversity and commitment of its student body to serve our local, national and international communities.
Research
Macquarie is home to some of the world's most pre-eminent researchers who attract significant research funding to the University. Our concentrations of research excellence span a wide range of disciplines including Cognitive Science, Lasers and Photonics, Biomolecular Frontiers and Wireless communications just to name a few.
Learning and Teaching
At Macquarie we have established a new set of learning and teaching values, principles and priorities. These ensure that we graduate world-ready, lifelong learners, provide the cornerstone for innovative methods of teaching, and attract world-class teachers year after year.
Business and Community Engagement
At Macquarie, we value establishing external partnerships that strengthen opportunities for enterprise and innovation, as well as contribute to the development of the local, national and international community. Our engagement with business is driven by our vision of becoming one of Australia's leading research universities. Our community engagement projects involve partnerships with government and community groups.
Social Inclusion
As well as orchestrating opportunities to attract and integrate students from diverse cultural backgrounds, we at Macquarie are enhancing our commitment to local students whose circumstances limit their access to tertiary study through a range of equity based scholarships and university access pathways. In addition to this, Macquarie seeks to play an active developmental role in Australian society by giving students from all backgrounds a chance to achieve their potential and make a contribution to society.
Internationalisation
At Macquarie we are incorporating inter-cultural and global perspectives into our research and our learning and teaching activities. In addition to this we are enhancing and ensuring the quality of our educational activities and strategic partnerships, as well as diversifying our recruitment, curricula and student experiences to achieve a more global perspective.
Institutional Advancement
Our new Office of Institutional Advancement will implement relationship building and fundraising campaigns across the campus, including annual giving and bequest programs. Through these initiatives we will create a significant new revenue stream for Macquarie. Funds raised will be used for new facilities, research and teaching, professorial chairs, merit scholarships and prizes, and financial aid for students through equity scholarships and grants.
Sustainability
Macquarie is seeking to become a leader in sustainability. We have established a Sustainability Office and, since its inception, it has completed numerous actions to advance sustainability at Macquarie. Some of these include the development of water management and waste audit policies; the inclusion of sustainability in our learning and teaching plan; and the injection of an extra $1.3 million into the new library project to ensure the building achieves the Green Building Council of Australia's 5-star rating.
