Internationalisation
International Education in Australia
Macquarie is expanding its focus on the internationalisation of learning, teaching, research and community engagement.
We are incorporating inter-cultural and global perspectives into our research and our learning and teaching activities; we are enhancing and ensuring the quality of our educational activities and strategic partnerships; and we are diversifying our recruitment, curricula and student experiences to achieve a more global perspective.
Our new curriculum will be built around culturally inclusive and internationally focussed learning and teaching practices. Through our new programs our students will develop an increased recognition of the value of cross-cultural engagement and global citizenship and will have access to greater opportunities to study and experience global issues from multi disciplinary perspectives.
Globally relevant research
Our research efforts will centre on the promotion of globally relevant and recognised research through collaborations with partner institutions and industry and our academic staff will be further supported to take part in international exchanges and visits, and participate in joint research projects and publications with international colleagues.
Our students and staff will also be encouraged to undertake research related work experience that responds to major social problems such as climate change and social justice.
International Partnerships
Macquarie has over 370 exchange partners in 53 countries worldwide, including North and South America, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Africa, the Middle East, India, Asia, the South Pacific and New Zealand. We collaborate on a range of programs targeted at undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research students.
Study Abroad Program
Our Study Abroad Program offers international students the opportunity to study at Macquarie for either one or two semesters. Students can tailor their study programs and receive full academic credit at their home university. Students are also eligible to undertake an unpaid internship during the course of their studies at Macquarie. We currently have 8700 international students.
Cotutelles
Macquarie currently has 30 cotutelle agreements with universities in 17 countries.
Facilitating co-enrolment and co-supervision of doctoral students, cotutelles enhance international research collaboration between ourselves and leading research universities overseas.
Under a cotutelle agreement a PhD candidate normally spends a minimum of one year at a partner institution, and the remaining two years at the home institution. On completion, students receive either two doctoral degrees, each specifying that the degree was obtained under a cotutelle agreement, or a single double-badged degree for an approved joint doctoral degree program
Overseas students are eligible to apply for an international stipend scholarship at Macquarie, while our domestic cotutelle applicants are eligible to apply for Australian student scholarships.
Student Exchange
Our Student Exchange program facilitates international study placements for our domestic students. Students can go overseas for periods ranging from two weeks to one year and receive credit towards their degree.
