16. Penrith City Memory Park War Memorial
Memory Park War Memorial is located centrally to the heart of Penrith City. It was originally dedicated in 1922 & redesigned over the last decade. The current design depicts servicemen & women from each of the four forces; Army, Air Force, Navy & Wrans. The centerpiece is designed to represent the "Eternal Flame", referring to the eternal life that servicemen & women of Australia have been rewarded with in commemoration of their service & sacrifice. The memorial also houses 8 plaques which dictate the honor roll for local servicemen from both World War I & World War II. The memorial stands as the convening point for all annual ANZAC services. Further, it is located within walking distance of the local RSL where ex-service men & women convene.
This year Penrith City commemorated the centenary of the landing at Gallipoli & 100 years of ANZAC by creating the instillation "Poppy Park". 102,804 poppies were created & planted, so to recognize every fallen soldier in Australia's military history. The instillation will run until Remembrance Day, 11/11/2015.
