Gold for LAMS at global e-learning awards
18 May 2009
An online learning tool developed at Macquarie University has won a gold award at the IMS Global Learning Consortium's prestigious Learning Impact Awards (LIAs), held in Barcelona last week.
Learning design system Learning Activity Management System (LAMS), won the gold award in conjunction with the associated LAMS Community - a global community website for more than 4400 educators who wish to share LAMS learning designs.
LAMS provides educators with a visual drag-and-drop environment for authoring and sharing, together with a learning environment for deployment with students, and a teacher monitoring environment for tracking student progress. LAMS is freely available as open source software.
The LIA awards take the form of an annual competition, which rewards the high impact use of technology to support and enhance learning in all regions of the world. The awards are unique in that they recognise the use of technology in context. Nominations include not only information about the technology but how it is used by an education provider. In addition, the entries are evaluated according to eight criteria of impact, including improving access to learning, improving affordability of learning, and improving the quality of learning.
LAMS founder, Professor James Dalziel, said the gold award was wonderful recognition of a learning system that has now been adopted in over 80 countries and translated into 28 languages.
