International psychologist to join Macquarie University leadership team

Following an extensive international search, Professor Simon Handley has been appointed to the role of Executive Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at Macquarie University. He will take up the position in late October 2015.

Professor Handley is the current Head of the School of Psychology and Associate Dean at the University of Plymouth, UK. He holds a PhD Psychology from Cardiff University, and joined his current university in 1993 as a lecturer. Over the following 22 years he served in various roles including Head of Psychology, Associate Deanships (Faculty and Research), and Dean of the Science Faculty. He has an extensive research and publication record in the fields of reasoning and judgment and holds, among other responsibilities, the chair of the Economic and Social Research Council Future Research Leaders Commissioning Panel, and membership of the ESRC Training and Skills Committee.

Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton welcomed news of the appointment.

“I look forward to welcoming Professor Handley to campus later this year,” he said. “I am confident that he will make a great contribution to the Faculty, and to the University leadership as a member of the Executive Group.”
