Message from the Vice-Chancellor
Dear Alumni, Friends and Donors
I invite you to participate in the life of Macquarie University and to contribute to its future.
Macquarie has set a goal to become one of Australia's leading research universities by the time of our 50th anniversary in 2014. We are busy employing more top class researchers to strengthen our efforts in key areas of established excellence. We are rejuvenating our learning and teaching efforts, updating our curriculum and providing new opportunities in community service for our students. New buildings are going up. Our excellent sports and aquatic centre is now well established, work is continuing on the new Macquarie University Hospital with its associated research facilities, and our state-of-the-art library is well on the way to completion.
We need your help. Macquarie University receives less than 27% of its income from government; this means that we cannot achieve our goals without financial and other support from our alumni, friends and the business community. Our Office for Institutional Advancement, established in 2007 to help to build and strengthen the university's external associations and fundraising activities, is working hard to foster mutually rewarding relationships with you, our graduates, friends and benefactors.
Your generosity in the past through donations, bequests and scholarships has directly benefitted our staff and students and has enabled us to reach out to the wider community.
With your continuing support we can achieve our goal of becoming a great university.
Professor Steven Schwartz
Vice-Chancellor
