Medicine at Macquarie

Welcome to the Australian School of Advanced Medicine - the first school of its kind to offer sub-specialty, post-fellowship training in a private teaching hospital on a university campus.

ASAM The school provides an innovative competency-based education program featuring "hands-on learning" for surgeons and physicians. We are proud of our new facility located in the Macquarie University Clinic building which includes a state of the art surgical skills anatomy laboratory centre and simulation centre with sophisticated audio-visual equipment.

The Australian School of Advanced Medicine also boasts a prestigious research centre with PhD students working alongside our team of leading scientists. We welcome applications for our Masters and PhD programs at any time.

The anatomy laboratory, complete with sophisticated imaging equipment and audio-visual technology, is now available for surgical workshops.

The school was recently designated a Concentration of Research Excellence (CoRE) at Macquarie and is an international luminary research site for GE Healthcare.

MND Researchers awarded grants: The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences would like to congratulate four of our MND Researchers have been successful in receiving grants from the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia (MNDRIA).

Dr Benjamin Heng awarded Tour de Cure's Scott Canner Research Grant: Congratulations to Dr Heng who was awarded the Tour de Cure's research grant for 2016. 

Appointment of Professor Michael Morgan: The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences are happy to welcome back Professor Michael Morgan who, after a period as Vice-President, Health and Medical Development, has returned to a position in the Faculty as Professor of Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery. 

Dr Kelly Williams awarded NHMRC Peter Doherty Biomedical Early Career Fellowship: Congratulations to Dr Kelly Williams who has been awarded a prestigious four-year NHMRC Peter Doherty Biomedical Early Career Fellowship for her work on the genetics of Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

Professor Michael Morgan awarded (AO) of the Order of Australia: Congratulations to Professor Michael Morgan who was awarded an officer in the general division (AO) of the Order of Australia for "For distinguished service to medicine as a neurovascular surgeon, researcher and educator, as an international leader and mentor, and to professional organisations".

Professor Yi Qian (Itsu Sen) appointed Advisory Professor: Australian School of Advanced Medicine's Professor Yi Qian has been appointed as an Advisory Professor at the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong University Medical School in China.  This appointment is a significant honour for Professor Yi Qian and demonstrates the high esteem in which he is held at Shangahi Jiao Tong.

NHMRC and ARC Success: ASAM would like to congratulate the following researchers who were awarded funds from the National Health and Medical Research Council and ARC in the latest grant round. NHMRC - Professor Marcus Stoodley and Associate Professor Brendan McMorran. ARC Discovery Project - Professor Roger Chung and Dr Nicholas Cole.
